A runtime version of SQL Server (MSDE) is included on the installation CD for evaluation purposes, or for use on the development or staging servers, but the Microsoft Data Engine (the runtime version of SQL Server) is limited in terms of the size of database it can support (2GB limitation), and so we do not recommend using it in production for anything other than small business endeavors.
